About Us

When I found the isopod hobby, I quickly gravitated towards it for many reasons. Whether it be bin set up and carefully curating an environment suitable for a pod or observing their many fascinating behaviors and ecosystems for hours, I can easily get lost into their tiny worlds. We pride ourselves on giving our animals, including our isopods, the best care that we can provide for them and figuring out how we can better our husbandry practices for these amazing creatures as we learn from them. The goal is to offer them the best captive experience as possible.

What lead me to this venture was a common occurrence in the isopod hobby- the loss of color in captive isopods. Over time many species of isopod begin to lose coloration due to lack of nutrients in their new captive environments, which is a huge indicator of missing nutrition in many animals.  I saw many fellow hobbyists disappointed that their cultures were fading and that they were not able to view their Isopods in their full glory. So many isopods were missing vital nutrients in their diets. This was my motivation try to develop a food that was extremely nutrient dense to try to bring that color and health back into cultures. After almost a year of research, trial, and error testing with my own isopod cultures, I was finally able to nail down a mix that worked in many different species of many different colors that they love to eat and I'm excited to offer it to others! I’m incredibly thankful for the isopod community and the opportunity to observe these amazing animals every day. I want to extend a special thank you to those of you that have been supportive and I’m looking forward to working with many more of you along the way.

Thanks for visiting!

Why Choose Pod Daddy Color Enhancing Food...

Pod Daddy Isopod Food was created with one goal - achieving color through pure nutrition that your isopods can easily process and love to eat.  We believe a true concentrated color enhancer shouldn't contain fillers that your isopods should already have access to in their bins. No leaves, no sticks, no added calcium, no dried vegetable meals. Nothing but high-quality concentrated nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to take the color of your isopods to the next level.

This formula was developed with a focus on Cubaris and Armadillidium species based on their dietary preferences, however as time goes on, we are finding out it works on many different species, and many other species love eating it too. While we don't claim that it works in every species, we highly recommend this mix for species containing red, yellow, orange, blue, and green pigments. This includes species such as Cubaris Jupiter, Cubaris Cherry Blossom, Isopoda electric blue, Pseudarmadillo Gillianus, Ardentiella Ember Bee, and many more. Soon we're hoping to finish developing a mix directed towards Porcellio and other Isopods with higher protein needs as well.

We love to hear about your experiences with the food as we learn more about all of the species it works in! Please feel free to share your experience with it on the Pod Daddy Facebook page , visit and follow our Instagram,  and spread the word!

Pod Daddy Feeding Guide...

Introducing Isopods to a new food can sometimes be tricky! We recommend starting the introduction by sprinkling a small amount of Pod Daddy food in a dry area onto or near a usual food item. They may not seem interested at first, but they'll catch onto the new food source. Once the isopods begin to take to the food, we suggest slowly increasing the amount of Pod Daddy food and decreasing the usual food item offered along with it, being careful not to overfeed and promote mold growth. Pod Daddy food is not intended to be a total replacement for the natural diet of decaying leaves, wood, lichens, moss, and other staple food items and does not contain any of the aforementioned. We keep bins topped off with the staple items and still occasionally offer our Isopods a small piece of veggie and proteins alongside the Food at a ratio of about 80% Pod Daddy food and 20% other. While it is primarily intended for Cubaris and Armadillidium species, many others seem to enjoy it and have the same color enhancing effects so feel free to try it in any species! Lastly, Isopods don't change color overnight. They need time to metabolize and utilize ingredients in the food. Results will depend on how quickly they take to it, how often they are fed, and how much of their diet it makes up. Stick with it and we always recommend taking "before" photos as a reference!
